Calling for old T-shirts

I'm looking for your old T-shirts! That stack of "well I might wear them for workouts" that so many of us have --I'm turning these into reusable produce bags, thanks to a grant from Patagonia. I'll then distribute 400 bags for free in exchange for your pledge to USE THEM at least 10 times.

Hopefully it then becomes a habit....

These aren't totes, but rather smaller, "plastic bag" sized bags - a non-petroleum solution to the farmers market dilemma:
lovely organic produce carted home in a plastic bag mountain.

Any T will do, as long as you're getting rid of them....tanks will also work, like this "Make love not war" bag. So far they are super cute, will post some pix soon.

A wonderful parent volunteer from Jefferson Elementary, where my sis is a counselor, is helping with the sewing. Local materials and local production for your local organic goods.

Once I have enough completed "baguettes", I'll find a tabling venue to give them away, and let you know. So drop me a line if you have a bag full, for every 20 Ts, I'll kick you back a baguette!

Now that JUNK is safely afloat, heading for the openwaters, I'm getting to creative projects to keep entertained......

Great, Anna! I'd send you mine, but they are already reserved for the daughter of one of my Green Sangha cohorts who is doing the same thing up here as a fundraiser for her school. It's a great project to get kids involved in.

Great idea! My 4H kids who made the iMovie you posted have joined forces with the local Farmers Market and will have a booth to educate the public about plastic. The city of San Leandro has purchased canvas bags that the boys will sell for them.

However we will also be showing the public how to reuse items. So perhaps we need to whip out a few of these bags. Any tricks I should know regarding best ways to sew these bags?

What a completely brilliant idea! My friend brought around a bag of old clothes yesterday, a bit too ragged for the charity shop to be honest, but they'd have life in them for bags!

I have an old machine and haven't run anything up in ages, but I'm heading out to the shed once the kids are in bed - lololol...

Nice one - I love top tips on taking a positive embrace to living with less.

I think this is a great idea, i can't decide whether to make my own as yet (I'd be the person who ended up with no T's and no bags due to cack handed scissor management)

As soon as I have a sewing machine I'm doing this! I don't have any t-shirts right now cause I made yarn and such out of the ones I had.

Do you need help sewing? Or can we expand your mission somehow? I can help sew and collect tees...

I'm planning on sewing one of my own. And sew a purse out of old and torn jeans. My sister did this and it looks great and I want one of my own.
